Pools & Spas Installed Before 8 April 1991

Ensure your older pool or spa meets Part 9A Building Regulations 2018 and AS 1926 standards. In Victoria, any residential pool or spa capable of holding more than 300mm of water must have a well-maintained safety barrier to protect children under the age of five.

Installed Between 8 April 1991 – 30 April 2010

This assessment covers barriers approved under AS 1926.1-1986 (for installations through October 1994) or AS 1926.1-1993 (for installations through April 2010) to ensure your existing fencing remains up to the required legal safety standard.

For modern installations, this checklist ensures compliance with AS 1926.1-2007 or AS 1926.1-2012. These standards apply to all barrier-building permits issued after May 2010, as well as barriers not requiring a permit since December 2019.
